To finish out their fully-loaded Culture Collide 2011 Festival of live music, DJ sets, art exhibitions and film screenings, the mag’s second annual full-throttle celebration of the arts took over Reservoir Street with a three-stage setup for the day-long Toyota Antics Block Party closing event.
After last night’s kick-off events, FILTER Magazine’s Culture Collide 2011 Festival is officially upon us, taking over Echo Park with more music, art and film events than John Slattery’s post-modern alt spirit could physically cover. For those westsiders who suffer from AWOL (Always West Of Lincoln) Syndrome, this is the perfect opportunity to what they call in psychology “desensitize” and venture east of the 405.

The Summer of Live Music just keeps rolling on, as the 16-year old Vans Warped Tour set up shop on the grounds of the Home Depot Center in Carson yesterday for a full day of loud music and extreme sports. Now, if a punk music festival that takes place on a summertime weekday sounds like it’s set up almost exclusively for high school kids, you wouldn’t be entirely mistaken, and the fact that I could only recognize four of the thirteen “main stage” bands kind of confirms it (the guys from Less Than Jake must be like 40 by now, right?), but I’d be lying to you if I didn’t admit that going to these kind of shows when I was in high school was one of the highlights of the summer
A Britney Spears concert must have the same feeling as attending one of Ronald Reagan’s last speeches. There’s a simultaneous feeling of iconic awe and bittersweet pity, and whether you loved or hated Ron/Brit in his/her prime, the sense of historical importance would compel you to attend. The people came out to rock out with the Brooklyn-based band who will be touring this summer (opening up for The Gossip and Peaches) and making a pit stop in a few weeks at Coachella . Talk About Body is their provocative upcoming album loaded with political topics and the band’s very own take on “queer lifestyle policies.” MEN never fails in bringing a high energy show for their fans to enjoy and keeps them coming back for more! We highly recommend you get yourself to a show to experience all that is MEN!
